The exam pattern of JEE Main 2026 has not been announced yet, but based on all the previous exam patterns, students can use the 2025 pattern and wait to get the official pattern before the actual announcement. JEE Main exam is expected to have the same pattern as the past years, that is, the exam will be divided into three different papers, i.e., Paper 1 (B.E./ B. Tech), Paper 2A (B. Arch), and Paper 2B (B. Plan). The paper pattern is an important part of preparation in the examination, as far as the total marks, the allocation of the questions, as well as the marking system, and the pattern of questions are concerned in JEE.

Overview of JEE Main 2026 Exam Pattern

It will take place in the form of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) on 13 regional languages. According to the format of the 

Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) – For engineering aspirants

Paper 2A (B.Arch) – For architecture aspirants

Paper 2B (B.Plan) – For planning course aspirants

Both papers will examine the candidates in different subjects, and they will be unequally distributed in the number of questions and the total mark in JEE.

JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 Exam Pattern (B.E./B.Tech)

The computer-based paper in B.E./ B. Tech JEE Main 2026 will have questions about Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The paper will have 75 questions (25 each subject) and 300 marks in JEE. The 20 multiple-choice questions and 5 questions of numerical value will be included in each of the subjects. There will be negative marking in both sections.

JEE Main 2026 Paper 2A Exam Pattern (B.Arch)

JEE Main 2026 Paper 2A ( B.Arch ) will mark the applicants in mathematics, aptitude, and drawing. The total number of questions to be included in the paper will be 77, and a total of 400 marks will be included in the JEE. The Mathematics and Aptitude Part is going to be computer-based, but the Drawing Part will be offline. Every test will also contain MCQs as well as numerical value style questions, and incorrect responses will be penalized by negative marking.

JEE Main 2026 Paper 2B Exam Pattern (B.Plan)

Paper 2B of the JEE Main 2026 exam B.Plan will have the sections of Mathematics, Aptitude, as well as Planning-based questions. The paper will contain 100 questions and will be worth 400 marks in JEE. The questions will all be objective-type (MCQs and questions with numerical values), in computer-based mode. Incorrect answers will be subject to negative marking.

In 2026, Numerical Value Questions (Section B) are supposed to be mandatory.

It will be negatively marked on MCQs and numerical value questions.

B.Arch uses the drawing section offline and manually.
